WATCH: CIA Veterans Slam “Disgusting” New Ad Attempting to Tie Abigail Spanberger to Terrorists
GLEN ALLEN, VA — In Rep. Abigail Spanberger’s new ad, career Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) veterans slam the latest outrageous attack ad from the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC).
“Again” features career CIA veterans who stress Abigail Spanberger’s experience serving her country, protecting U.S. citizens, and fighting terrorism. Click here to watch the full ad.
“Abigail Spanberger was one of our quiet warriors who worked overseas…Abigail put her life on the line to serve our country,” said John Sipher, 28 years, CIA National Clandestine Service. “These attacks against her have been discredited and condemned. To suggest somehow that she’s unpatriotic is not only absurd — it’s disgusting.”
“Terrorism is not a game. It’s outrageous that Nick Freitas or anyone would disrespect her service,” said Melvin Gamble, 40 years, CIA Senior Intelligence Officer. “Nick Freitas should be ashamed of himself.”
“This disgusting ad is yet another shameful and dangerous smear from Washington insiders. As a veteran, Nick Freitas should understand the invaluable work of intelligence officers like Abigail Spanberger,” said Connor Joseph, Spanberger spokesperson. “He should know better and should immediately denounce this ad questioning Abigail’s service and patriotism.”
In 2018, the Congressional Leadership Fund disseminated an unredacted version of Spanberger’s classified national security questionnaire (SF-86) with her Social Security number and medical records — in violation of her privacy, and ran two ads also trying to connect Spanberger with terrorism.
Soon after this incident in 2018, the Washington Post Editorial Board described the dangerous political use of Spanberger’s SF-86 in this manner as “outrageous and worrisome.” Even Republicans slammed the attack, and more than 200 national security veterans demanded additional information about how Spanberger’s security form was obtained and handled.
