Far-right Del. Nick Freitas, the Republican nominee for Congress in VA07, was presumably very pleased with himself this morning, with the news story in The Hill that he raised over $1.8 million in the third quarter. And, in fairness, that *is* a lot of money, having “surpassed the previous Virginia House GOP single-quarter fundraising record of $1.5 million, which was set by former Rep. Scott Rigell (R-Va.) in the third quarter of 2010.” The problem for Freitas is that his Democratic opponent, Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D), raised one-third more money than Freitas, and also has raised a lot more money than Freitas overall.  And, unlike Freitas, who has been heavily funded by super-rich extremists like anti-LGBTQ billionaire Dick Uihlein, Rep. Spanberger has had more than 83,000 individual contributions to date. Which sounds more impressive and appealing to VA07 voters? We’ll find out in 29 days.
