I’m not sure exactly what to make of this one, and frankly am too tired right now to dig into it, but it does seem potentially newsworthy. So…see below for the latest with far-right Virginia State Senator Amanda Chase (R) – a declared Republican candidate for governor of Virginia in 2021 –  courtesy of:

  1. This Virginian-Pilot story on two men from Chesapeake, VA arrested today in Philadelphia, who now “face firearms charges in Philadelphia after police say they drove to the Pennsylvania Convention Center with guns.” The article adds that one of the arrested men, “Antonio Paredes LaMotta…supported State Sen. Amanda Chase’s run for governor, according to a cached Facebook page. In a screenshot from television news found online, LaMotta can be seen behind her.”
  2. Tweets by Virginia Mercury reporter Ned Oliver about the Virginian-Pilot story.
  3. Chase’s Facebook post this afternoon, claiming the story is “fake news” and that “there is no connection” between her and the “individual believed to be connected to this incident,” other than that he is “a supporter that [sic] shows up on occasion at events.” Chase also added, “I denounce any attempt to plot an attack on the Philadelphia Convention Center.”
  4. This long thread by Richmond-based progressive activist Goad Gatsby (see below for screenshots), in which he lays out photographic evidence that, he believes, ties one of the men arrested in Philadelphia today to Chase.
