Governor Northam Sets 1/5/21 as Date of Special Election for Second House of Delegates District

The following press release is from Gov. Ralph Northam’s office. The Democratic candidates so far are:

  • Pamela Montgomery – Former Woodbridge Democratic Committee Chair, current Chief of Staff to Woodbridge District  (Prince William County) Supervisor Margaret Angela Franklin
  • Rozia Henson – LGBT Woodbridge Democrat, Program Manager at Highlight Technologies
  • Candi King — “a community leader, former small business owner and community relations liaison for a leading non-profit organization.”

And the Democratic caucus to select a nominee for this seat is likely to be this Saturday or possibly Sunday…

Governor Northam Sets Special Election for Second House of Delegates District
RICHMOND—Governor Ralph Northam today issued a writ of election declaring a special election in the Second House of Delegates District for January 5, 2021. The seat was previously held by Delegate Jennifer Carroll Foy, who resigned effective December 12, 2020.
Under § 24.2-216 of the Code of Virginia, the Governor is charged with setting the special election date when a vacancy occurs in the General Assembly absent of the General Assembly being in session.

The last day for candidates to file to appear on the ballot is December 14, 2020. Information regarding candidacy requirements can be found on the Department of Elections website.
