From the Democratic Party of Virginia:
As Virginia Republicans Oppose A Bipartisan January 6 Commission, Virginians Deserve To Know Where Jen Kiggans Stands
Richmond, VA — Yesterday, all four Virginia Republicans in Congress voted against establishing a bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol that resulted in five deaths – including a Capitol Police officer from Virginia.
Representatives Wittman, Cline, Griffith, and Good have consistently sided with Donald Trump and his election conspiracy theories rather than defend basic tenets of our democracy. All four voted to overturn election results even after insurrectionists stormed the Capitol to disrupt the peaceful transition of power. Now they’re voting to bury the truth, even after a group of Capitol Police officers released a letter condemning Republican Members of Congress for downplaying the violence of January 6.
With Virginia Republicans doubling down on their absolute loyalty to Donald Trump and voting to cover up the deadly violence he stoked, Virginians deserve to know where Jen Kiggans stands. Earlier this year Kiggans refused to censure Senator Amanda Chase when she called the Capitol rioters “patriots” and spread lies about the 2020 election being stolen. And Kiggans has stood up for Trump in the past, calling him a “genius.” With members of her own party openly siding with violent conspiracy theorists, Kiggans needs to make her position on the January 6 commission clear.
“The January 6 insurrection was a violent attack on our democracy that led to the deaths of multiple Virginians. But Virginia Republicans are determined to hide the truth and defend Donald Trump at all costs,” said DPVA Communications Director Grant Fox. “Virginians need to know whether their leaders like Jen Kiggans will side with Donald Trump and Amanda Chase or stand up for the foundations of our democracy.”
