Hopefully this vote (see video, below), taken a few minutes ago in the Virginia Senate’s “Privileges and Elections” Committee, will torpedo Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s nomination of Andrew Wheeler to be Virginia’s next Secretary of Natural and Historic Resources. However, as reporter Sarah Vogelsong points out, it’s possible Republicans will try to add Wheeler’s name back in on the Senate floor. If so, it would require a majority vote, which would mean that at least one Democrat (e.g., Sen. Joe Morrissey) would have to defect. Stay tuned…but for now, Wheeler’s nomination is on thin ice.
