Jen Kiggans Voted for Anti-Abortion Amendment to Restrict Low-income Virginians from Receiving Reproductive Health Care
In a post-Roe world, Kiggans’ agenda is too dangerous for Virginia women
Richmond, VA – This past session, craven political opportunist Jen Kiggans voted for a vile anti-abortion amendment to restrict crucial funds for reproductive health care — a vote that will disproportionately impact low-income Virginians, people of color, and women in Coastal Virginia at a time when access to safe, legal abortion is more endangered than ever.
Under Governor Youngkin’s budget amendment, pregnant Medicaid recipients and other low-income Virginians are withheld crucial funds when seeking reproductive health care. This amendment punishes Virginians for their socioeconomic status and would force women to carry non-viable pregnancies to term – even at the risk of the mother’s health.
Jen Kiggans anti-abortion extremism is a danger to women across the Commonwealth. She has made ending access to safe, legal abortion a core motivation to run for office. She’s promoted false claims about “infanticide” and consistently voted against legislation to expand access to abortion, and recently cheered the Supreme Court’s decision to end Roe v. Wade.
“How heartless do you have to be to target low-income Virginians from receiving life-saving health care?” said DPVA Spokesperson Gianni Snidle. “Coastal Virginians need a Representative that will defend their right to access safe, legal abortion – not rip it away. Kiggans’ anti-abortion extremism is out of touch with Virginians and a danger to women across the Commonwealth.”
