Jen Kiggans Fact-Checked for False Claim

Richmond, VA – Once again, political opportunist Jen Kiggans has shown Virginians that she will say or do anything to get elected – even spread false information.

Today, Politi-Fact fact-checked Jen Kiggans and Congressman Ben Cline’s false claim that the Inflation Reduction Act “will make the IRS workforce larger than the Pentagon, FBI, State Department, and Customs and Border Patrol, combined” rating it as MOSTLY FALSE.

“Among the Republicans who made this flawed comparison is state Sen. Jen Kiggans (R-Virginia Beach), who is running for the Second District congressional seat held by Rep. Elaine Luria, a Democrat.

[…]

The Inflation Reduction Act will provide funding that will allow the IRS to strengthen its workforce significantly, but just how that will play out is not set in stone. The best figures available strongly suggest the agency will not become as big as Cline has said.

We rate Cline’s statement Mostly False.”

This isn’t the first time Kiggans has let her political ambitions come before truth. Just weeks ago a local editorial board warned Coastal Virginians of how untrustworthy she is writing, “After announcing her bid for Congress, [Kiggans] apparently decided that the path to victory is the selling of her soul.”

She’s also pushed false election conspiracy theories and was one of only four state Senators who voted for a $70 million taxpayer dollars audit of the 2020 election and even repeatedly refused to say who won the 2020 presidential election.

“Jen Kiggans is a political opportunist who has shown Coastal Virginians that she will say or do anything to obtain power,” said DPVA Spokesperson Gianni Snidle. “It is disturbing to see Kiggans throw away any sense of moral responsibility to win a handful of votes. Her record of pushing dangerous misinformation and supporting false claims of election fraud should be a concern to all Virginians and disqualify her from office.”
