Abigail knows just how important it is to fund our local police departments, keep our communities safe, and grow Virginia’s economy. That’s why Abigail isn’t afraid to work across party lines to make Virginia safer, stronger, and an even better place to raise a family or start a business.”

BACKGROUND
Spanberger – a former federal law enforcement officer and CIA case officer – holds herself accountable to all Virginians – whether they voted for her or not.
That’s why Spanberger holds regular town halls. During these events – sometimes in person, sometimes virtual – Spanberger is able to listen to the top concerns of Virginians, and address those concerns in Congress. Since taking office, Spanberger has held more than 40 public town hall events.
Spanberger knows that to get things done for Virginians, she needs to work across the aisle to craft commonsense legislation that will make the lives of Virginians better.
Earlier this year, Spanberger was once again ranked as the most bipartisan Member of Congress from Virginia, and among the top five most bipartisan Members of the U.S. House overall.
Since she was first elected to serve in Congress, Spanberger has voted every year to increase funding for the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) programs. The COPS program helps Virginia police departments hire new police officers and support community policing initiatives. From 2019–2020, Spanberger’s vote helped increase COPS funding by 13 percent, and from 2020–2021, Spanberger’s vote increased COPS funding by 12.5 percent. Most recently, from 2021–2022, Spanberger voted to increase COPS funding by 32.5 percent.
Additionally, Spanberger has voted to increase funding for federal law enforcement (U.S. Marshals, FBI, DEA, ATF). From 2019–2020, and 2020–2021, Spanberger voted to increase federal law enforcement funding by three percent each year. This year, 2021–2022, Spanberger voted to increase federal law enforcement funding by four percent.
Spanberger is working with a bipartisan coalition to pass the Invest to Protect Act, which would make critical investments in local police departments.
