If you still have questions about where MAGA/Trumpist Republicans are coming from, check out the following video, in which far-right-extremist/nutjob Rep. Bob Good (R-VA05) says “we should not fear a government shutdown,” because “most of what we do up here is bad anyway…hurts the American people…most of the American people won’t even miss if the government is shut down temporarily.” In fact, the VAST majority of what the government does is not only NOT bad, it’s very GOOD, important stuff that the vast majority of Americans depend upon and support. Things such as:
- Social Security
- Medicare and other healthcare expenses
- Military/defense
- National security
- Veterans benefits/care
- Education
- Transportation
- Environmental protection/NOAA/etc.
- Clean energy R&D
- etc.
Adding in debt service, which is mandatory, that accounts for the VAST majority of the federal budget. So which of these would Bob Good and his fellow House Republican extremists shut down, exactly? Which of these is “bad?” And which of these “hurts the American people?” Uhhhh….
P.S. By the way, if Rep. Good et al DO end up shutting down the government this fall, that has the potential to SERIOUSLY backfire politically on Republicans here in Virginia, which has a huge population of federal employees, contractors, military, veterans, etc.
