RICHMOND, Va. — On Day 25 of Protect Our Care’s “Lower Costs, Better Care” bus tour, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan and Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger will join elected officials, health care advocates, Freedom Virginia and Protect Our Care to demonstrate how recent victories by President Biden and Democrats in Congress are already “Driving Down Health Care Costs” by thousands of dollars a year — with even more savings on the way. During the event, speakers will discuss how the Inflation Reduction Act and other health care measures will improve care and lower costs for the American people. Over four weeks, Care Force One will travel to more than 16 states, make more than 30 stops, and travel nearly 8,000 miles.
The “Lower Costs, Better Care” tour promotes the work of lawmakers like those on the Protect Our Care tour who are fighting tirelessly to improve health care. Congresswoman McClellan will also address how Virginia can build on the IRA’s savings through the roll-out of Virginia’s health care exchange, a result of legislation she introduced and passed while serving in the state Senate.
Additionally, elected officials and advocates including Freedom Virginia will speak to how Virginia lawmakers can continue to build on the progress of the IRA by passing a Prescription Drug Affordability Board, an independent board of medical experts who could cap the cost of certain high-cost medicines. Though the bill passed the Virginia Senate with bipartisan support, it was killed by Virginia House Republicans at the behest of Big Pharma.
