NY Times congressional correspondent Annie Karni reports on a bizarre situation with VA07 GOP nominee Derrick Anderson:
“And at least one candidate is even filming footage with family-like tableaus and holiday card poses with women and kids who not their relatives…None of these people are related to the candidate in a tight Virginia house race, Derrick Anderson…
A spokesman for Mr. Anderson criticized The New York Times’s decision to focus on the footage and said that “Derrick’s opponent and every other candidate in America are in similar pictures and video with supporters of all kinds.” The spokesman said the video simply showed Mr. Anderson “with female supporters and their kids.”
WTF, seriously? I mean, this doesn’t even seem like it could possibly be real – at least in the sense that a candidate/his campaign couldn’t possibly think that nobody would find out that these aren’t his actual kids??? And really, the NRCC actually “posted this holiday card style photo in publicly available b-roll?” Bizarre.
By the way, I love Rep. Ted Lieu’s comment on all this:
“Dear @JDVance: You said that people without children “don’t really have a direct stake” in our country. Do you think that applies to GOP candidate Derrick Anderson, who doesn’t have children but is trying to mislead voters by renting a family in his pictures? Asking for a friend.”
Hahaha, touche!
And as Texas abortion rights activist Olivia Julianna puts it:
“New levels of weird and creepy. A Republican candidate in an open house seat in Virginia, Derrick Anderson, has taken posed family style photos with people WHO HE IS NOT RELATED TO. THESE ARE NOT HIS CHILDREN AND THAT AINT HIS WIFE.”
So bottom line: if you are in VA07, make sure you vote for Eugene Vindman on or before November 5. Need additional motivation?
