Yesterday evening, I had the chance to chat with Sam Shirazi on his “Federal Fallout: The 2025 Virginia Elections” about the current races for Lt. Governor and Attorney General, as well as some background on political blogging in Virginia, the changing media landscape, etc. Also, Sam Shirazi has his own take on the LG and AG races. If you’ve got an hour this morning, you can listen to both podcasts – or you can listen a lot faster if you speed them up to 1.5x or 2x, or you can skim the transcripts and get a quick feel for what we were talking about. The bottom line on November, though, is that Democrats as of right now appear to be in strong shape for a variety of reasons – subject, of course, to us MAKING that happen, not taking it for granted, etc. And, as Sam Shirazi says:
“It’s relatively unlikely that we’re going to see a split ticket in terms being elected in November. I think if Spanberger is winning by at least a few points, then I think she’ll just take the rest of the ticket with her. You know, conceivably, if it’s a close race, you know either for lieutenant governor or for attorney general, Republicans might be able to win. The last four Virginia elections, the candidate that’s won at the top of the ticket has been able to carry over the lieutenant governor and attorney general spots of the ticket.”
So make sure you vote on or before June 17th for your candidates in the Democratic Lt. Governor (Aaron Rouse, Ghazala Hashmi, Levar Stoney, Babur Lateef, Victor Salgado, Alex Bastani) and Attorney General (Shannon Taylor vs. Jay Jones) races, and may the best candidates win!
