Clean Virginia Applauds Abigail Spanberger’s Energy Affordability Plan

RICHMOND, VA — Clean Virginia today expressed strong support for Abigail Spanberger’s newly released energy affordability plan, praising its clear-eyed approach to lowering energy costs and accelerating Virginia’s transition to a cleaner, more resilient energy system.

“Virginians across the commonwealth are struggling under the weight of sharply rising energy bills,” said Brennan Gilmore, executive director of Clean Virginia. “Abigail Spanberger’s plan puts working families first. It tackles the root causes of high costs by investing in clean, low-cost energy, improving efficiency, and making sure massive users like data centers pay their fair share.”

The plan includes several key reforms championed by Clean Virginia, including:

• Making sure the rapid growth of data centers does not drive up costs for everyone else
• Expanding local renewable energy and battery storage to reduce long-term costs and minimize price volatility
• Investing in energy efficiency solutions like home weatherization, on-bill financing and small business programs
• Holding utilities accountable to meeting energy savings goals
