DANVILLE, Va. — This weekend, Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger embarked on her “Span Virginia Bus Tour” — which will feature more than 40 stops across all 11 of Virginia’s congressional districts over the course of eight days — and made stops in Richmond, Petersburg, Dinwiddie County, Brunswick County, and Danville.

Spanberger was joined by Democratic ticket mates Senator Ghazala Hashmi and Delegate Jay Jones at stops in Richmond, Petersburg, Dinwiddie, and Brunswick.

“As Virginia’s next Governor, I will put Virginia and Virginians first,” said Spanberger during the tour. “That means lowering costs while lowering the temperature of our politics. That means bringing down the price of healthcare and prescription drugs. That means making buying a home more attainable for renters. That means defending Virginians’ reproductive freedom. That means making Virginia’s public schools the best in the country by attracting and retaining teachers and preparing the next generation of our workforce to be ready for tomorrow’s jobs. And that means always putting the safety and well being of Virginians first.”

“We’ve got so much work to do, and you have a team in front of you that’s ready to do that work. Virginia is going to keep its values. Virginia is going to keep moving forward,” said Hashmi. “The very first word of our beloved American Constitution begins with a word that defines our values — that word is ‘we,’ as in ‘We the People.’ And we the people are stronger together.”

“We deserve so much better and with the people standing behind me, that’s what you will get,” said Jones. “We have to put Virginians first, and you have my word that I will always fight to protect you, to use the office as it’s supposed to be used to defend our rights and our freedoms, and to use it to help those of us who have been left behind.”

RICHMOND KICKOFF RALLY

On Saturday, Spanberger kicked off the “Span Virginia Bus Tour” with more than 100 supporters at Abner Clay Park in Richmond. Senator Mark Warner and Representative Jennifer McClellan joined Spanberger, Hashmi, and Jones to emphasize the importance of having leaders that put the needs of Virginians ahead of partisan politics.

BLUE COMMONWEALTH GALA

On Saturday night, Spanberger addressed a packed Main Street Station at the Democratic Party of Virginia’s Blue Commonwealth Gala in Richmond, outlining her plan to deliver results for all Virginians by lowering Virginians’ costs, growing Virginia’s economy, strengthening the Commonwealth’s public schools, and protecting Virginians’ fundamental rights.

PETERSBURG

At Croaker’s Spot in Petersburg — with Hashmi, Jones, McClellan, and candidate for Virginia’s 82nd House District, Kimberly Pope Adams — Spanberger greeted supporters and listened to the issues that matter most to them as she works to deliver results for all Virginians.

DINWIDDIE

To help beat the heat on the road, Spanberger made a stop for a sundae at Dairy Freeze in Dinwiddie County. Before getting back on the road, Spanberger met Virginians looking to cool off amid this week’s heat wave and heard about the issues that are top of mind for them.

BRUNSWICK

Spanberger then rallied with a packed room of more than 100 supporters in Lawrenceville in Brunswick County. Joined by Hashmi, Jones, and McClellan, Spanberger continued to outline her plans to put Virginia first — including lowering healthcare, energy, and housing costs through her “Affordable Virginia Plan.”

DANVILLE

Spanberger capped Sunday at Ten10 in Danville with Danville Mayor Alonzo Jones, Danville City Councilman Larry Campbell, Danville City Councilman Barry Mayo, Danville School Board Member T​​y’Quan Graves, and Martinsville Mayor LC Jones. Spanberger shared her vision for Virginia’s future with attendees and heard more about the challenges facing residents of Danville and Southside.

BACKGROUND

Spanberger announced the launch of her “Span Virginia Bus Tour” last week at a rally at her high school alma mater, J.R. Tucker High School.

Along the “Span Virginia Bus Tour,” Spanberger is touting her plan to lower costs for Virginians — the “Affordable Virginia Plan.” Over the last month, she has held events across Virginia outlining this vision to lower healthcare, housing, and energy costs for Virginia families.

Spanberger served three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from January 2019 to January 2025. During her three terms in Congress, Spanberger was consistently ranked the most bipartisan Member of Congress from Virginia.

Before Congress, Spanberger served as a federal law enforcement officer — working narcotics and money laundering cases. She then served as a CIA case officer — working on counterterrorism and nuclear counterproliferation cases. She and her husband Adam are the proud parents of three school-aged daughters in Virginia public schools.
