Ahead of Virginia’s high-stakes general election in the fall, the Democratic National Committee announced a new, seven-figure investment into the Virginia Democratic Coordinated Campaign to win up and down the ballot this November and next. Following Donald Trump and Virginia Republicans’ budget betrayal, where Virginia Republicans voted to kick nearly 323,000 Virginians off their health care after Elon Musk’s DOGE efforts fired thousands of Virginians from their jobs for no reason, Democrats are organizing and putting in the work to build strong Democratic infrastructure on the ground and reach voters everywhere in the commonwealth to fight back against federal Republican overreach. This initial $1.5 million investment into the Virginia Democratic Coordinated Campaign is one of the largest and earliest initial investments the DNC has ever made to the Virginia Democratic Coordinated Campaign in an off-year election cycle. Specifically, this investment will: - Help the Virginia coordinated campaign to continue to hire organizers and other key staff in order to talk to voters early and often
- Fund early persuasion programs to ensure that voters know the stakes of these elections and the differences between the candidates
- Test new tactics and tools to ensure our message is resonating with voters across the commonwealth
- Expand our reach to key constituencies that we lost ground with in the November 2024 elections — such as Black, Latino and AANHPI voters
The DNC is laying the groundwork that will carry Democrats to victory in November and move Abigail Spanberger into the governor’s mansion, make Ghazala Hashmi the next lieutenant governor, ensure Jay Jones becomes the next attorney general, and maintain the Democratic majority in the Virginia House of Delegates. DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement: “Donald Trump and Virginia Republicans have betrayed the commonwealth. From Elon Musk destroying the livelihoods of thousands of Virginians through DOGE, to Donald Trump and Virginia Republicans kicking 323,000 Virginians off their health insurance, to Glenn Youngkin and state Republicans leading Virginia to fall in the rankings of the top states for business, Republicans have utterly failed the commonwealth. Now, Democrats are giving Virginians an alternative to extreme Republican candidates with real Democratic leadership to make the state more affordable for working families. This investment will aid strong Democratic leaders like Abigail Spanberger, Ghazala Hashmi, and Jay Jones and turbocharge organizing efforts while building Democratic infrastructure that will help support Democratic victories all across the ballot.” DPVA Chair Lamont Bagby issued the following statement: “Our elections this year are the most critical in the country, and Chair Martin understands that to win, we must organize everywhere and leave no voter behind. The DNC’s investment will help us reach every corner of the Commonwealth with a clear message: Democrats are fighting back against Donald Trump’s reckless and extreme agenda. As he attacks our jobs, tanks our economy, and attempts to dismantle our public schools, the only leaders who are standing up for Virginians are Abigail Spanberger, Ghazala Hashmi, Jay Jones, and our 100 House of Delegates nominees. They are the firewall Virginia needs, and with the continued support of our partners, we’re ready to win.” |
