BURKE, VA – Today, Democrat Rachna Sizemore Heizer declared her candidacy for the Braddock District seat on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, complete with an announcement video posted on social media and her new campaign website. The election for Braddock Supervisor will be scheduled after incumbent James Walkinshaw wins the upcoming special congressional election on September 9.
A mother, attorney, small business owner, and college professor, Sizemore Heizer has represented Braddock District families on the Fairfax County School Board since 2020 — initially elected countywide, now serving as their dedicated district representative. She is the first Indian-American elected countywide in Fairfax and the first Asian-American woman to serve on the School Board.
Sizemore Heizer has served as School Board Chair, Vice Chair, and Budget Committee Chair, helping lead Fairfax County Public Schools through historic challenges and delivering major investments for Braddock schools. She previously represented our school system on the Fairfax County Planning Commission and, prior to her election, represented Braddock on the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board.
Sizemore Heizer enters the race with distinct advantages: she has more than $50,000 in her campaign account, committed volunteers in every precinct, and hundreds of grassroots donors. Additionally, she has never lost an election in the Braddock District.
In announcing her candidacy, Sizemore Heizer said:
“Braddock is where I built my life — where I raised my kids, fought for all families to have a seat at the table, grew my business, and dedicated myself to public service. I know this community, and I know how to get results. From delivering critical resources to our schools to standing up to attacks from MAGA extremists in Richmond and Washington, I’ve led with compassion and courage. Now, I’m ready to bring that same leadership to the Board of Supervisors — to stand up for federal workers and fight for affordable housing, strong schools, safe neighborhoods, and a Fairfax County where every person has an opportunity to thrive — no matter their zip code, income, age, or background.”
Sizemore Heizer’s priorities include:
- Standing up to Trump’s attacks on our community and federal workforce.
- Increasing affordable housing and caregiving support for families and seniors.
- Creating good-paying jobs in clean tech, health care, AI, and cybersecurity.
- Building safe, connected communities with traffic mitigation, improved transportation, pedestrian, and bike infrastructure.
- Enhancing parks, community, and green spaces, and strengthening environmental protections.
- Strengthening public schools with equitable resources.
- Standing with labor and advancing fair wages, strong public services, and inclusive governance.
- Improving access to mental health and disability services.
- Fostering inclusive communities where everyone is welcome, safe, and affirmed.
