Video: After James Walkinshaw Wins Nomination to VA11, Fairfax School Board Member Rachna Sizemore-Heizer Announces Campaign for Walkinshaw’s Braddock District (Fairfax County) Supervisor Seat

Rachna would do a great job on the Fairfax Board of Supervisors

Last month, of course, Braddock District (Fairfax County) Supervisor James Walkinshaw won the Democratic nomination to replace the late, great Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA11) in the US House. The special election for that east is on September 9, with early/in-person voting starting this Friday – so make sure you vote for James Walkinshaw over his MAGA cultist Republican opponent! Meanwhile, assuming Walkinshaw wins on September 9 – and he certainly should in such a “blue” district, but again, make sure you vote for him! – there will be a vacancy on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors for the Braddock District seat (and presumably an election within a few months of Walkinshaw being sworn in to Congress).

With that background, see below for this morning’s announcement and video by Fairfax County School Board member Rachna Sizemore Heizer for the Braddock District Supervisor’s seat. Personally, I think Rachna would be great for this job – she’s super smart, a hard worker, progressive/pragmatic, really cares about her district, has the right priorities and values, etc. So I definitely encourage everyone in the Braddock District to strongly consider supporting Rachna Sizemore Heizer’s candidacy.

P.S. Another Democrat running for this seat is School Board member Ilryong Moon, who by all accounts is a nice guy, but also is a pretty conservative Democrat. I strongly prefer Rachna Sizemore Heizer for the Braddock District Supervisor seat, and for Moon to remain on the School Board.

RACHNA SIZEMORE HEIZER ANNOUNCES CAMPAIGN FOR BRADDOCK DISTRICT SUPERVISOR

With Special Election Looming, Braddock School Board Member Launches Bid with Distinct Advantages

BURKE, VA – Today, Democrat Rachna Sizemore Heizer declared her candidacy for the Braddock District seat on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, complete with an announcement video posted on social media and her new campaign website. The election for Braddock Supervisor will be scheduled after incumbent James Walkinshaw wins the upcoming special congressional election on September 9.

A mother, attorney, small business owner, and college professor, Sizemore Heizer has represented Braddock District families on the Fairfax County School Board since 2020 — initially elected countywide, now serving as their dedicated district representative. She is the first Indian-American elected countywide in Fairfax and the first Asian-American woman to serve on the School Board.

Sizemore Heizer has served as School Board Chair, Vice Chair, and Budget Committee Chair, helping lead Fairfax County Public Schools through historic challenges and delivering major investments for Braddock schools. She previously represented our school system on the Fairfax County Planning Commission and, prior to her election, represented Braddock on the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board.

Sizemore Heizer enters the race with distinct advantages: she has more than $50,000 in her campaign account, committed volunteers in every precinct, and hundreds of grassroots donors. Additionally, she has never lost an election in the Braddock District.

In announcing her candidacy, Sizemore Heizer said:

“Braddock is where I built my life — where I raised my kids, fought for all families to have a seat at the table, grew my business, and dedicated myself to public service. I know this community, and I know how to get results. From delivering critical resources to our schools to standing up to attacks from MAGA extremists in Richmond and Washington, I’ve led with compassion and courage. Now, I’m ready to bring that same leadership to the Board of Supervisors — to stand up for federal workers and fight for affordable housing, strong schools, safe neighborhoods, and a Fairfax County where every person has an opportunity to thrive — no matter their zip code, income, age, or background.”

Sizemore Heizer’s priorities include:

  • Standing up to Trump’s attacks on our community and federal workforce.
  • Increasing affordable housing and caregiving support for families and seniors.
  • Creating good-paying jobs in clean tech, health care, AI, and cybersecurity.
  • Building safe, connected communities with traffic mitigation, improved transportation, pedestrian, and bike infrastructure.
  • Enhancing parks, community, and green spaces, and strengthening environmental protections.
  • Strengthening public schools with equitable resources.
  • Standing with labor and advancing fair wages, strong public services, and inclusive governance.
  • Improving access to mental health and disability services.
  • Fostering inclusive communities where everyone is welcome, safe, and affirmed.
