The Trump rule would eliminate abortion services in most cases, including rape and incest
Norfolk, VA — MAGA Jason Miyares is silent as the Trump Administration proposes a new rule that, according to The Virginian Pilot, “would roll back abortion access for veterans and eligible civilians, ending most services offered under its medical benefits package.”
This comes as Jason Miyares was an “expert presenter” last week at an event hosted by David Bereit and the Family Foundation, one of the most extreme anti-abortion institutions in the nation. The call, geared towards conservative insiders and donors, focused on stopping Virginia’s abortion amendment “dead in its tracks” before it reaches voters in 2026. During the event, MAGA Miyares praised the Family Foundation, saying he was “excited to see the work they’ll continue to do and the lasting impact it will have on our Commonwealth,” pledging his allegiance to the most extreme flank of his party.
Miyares has an extreme record on banning abortion:
- Miyares urged the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade and withdrew Virginia from a legal brief opposing Mississippi’s six-week abortion ban and defending a woman’s access to abortion.
- Miyares called the overturning of Roe v. Wade “good and reasonable” and refused to sign an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to allow the use and distribution of the safe and commonly prescribed abortion medication mifepristone.
- Miyares endorsed Gov. Youngkin’s abortion ban, which would have denied Virginians the fundamental right to make personal healthcare decisions.
- Miyares voted to defund Planned Parenthood, which annually performs more than 500,000 breast cancer exams and pap exams nationally.
- Miyares voted against Virginia’s Reproductive Health Protection Act, to maintain Virginia’s ban on private plans in the state’s health insurance exchange covering abortions, and against legislation stating that FDA-approved birth control was not considered abortion.
Communications Director Georgia Greenleaf:
“MAGA Miyares has made a career of restricting women’s reproductive rights and siding with Trump’s extreme agenda. Once again, he’s failing to defend Virginians from Trump’s attacks on their fundamental freedoms. Virginians deserve an Attorney General who will fight for them, not bow to anti-abortion extremists.”
