Jay Jones, Democratic Nominee for Attorney General, Releases Plan to Lower Costs and Protect Virginia Consumers

In stark contrast, Jason Miyares is "too weak to stand up to Donald Trump’s attacks on Virginia’s economy that have led to rising unemployment and skyrocketing costs."

While Jason Miyares and the rest of the 2025 Virginia GOP ticket focus on fear mongering, demagoguery, bigotry, hysteria and flat-out lying (e.g., that ANYONE supports “men in girls’ locker rooms” or “men on girls’ sports teams” – literally NOBODY supports that!), Virginia Democrats are focused on making people’s lives better, fighting back against Trump’s harm to the economy,  health care, etc. For instance, see here (and below for a press relase) to read about Democratic AG nominee Jay Jones’ plan to lower costs and protect Virginia consumers – even as Jason Miyares is glaringly “too weak to stand up to Donald Trump’s attacks on Virginia’s economy that have led to rising unemployment and skyrocketing costs.”

Jay Jones, Democratic Nominee for Attorney General, Releases Plan to Lower Costs and Protect Virginia Consumers

Norfolk, VA – Today, Jay Jones announced a new plan outlining how he will protect consumers from price-gouging, deceptive business practices that hike up costs and harm small businesses, and higher healthcare costs by targeting bad actors and ending predatory practices. As an Assistant Attorney General in D.C.’s Office of Consumer Protection, Jones prevented higher grocery prices by working to block the Albertson’s-Krogers merger and took on corporations unfairly raising prices.

Jones will protect consumers from corporate bad actors and seek settlements for Virginians by cracking down on businesses price-gouging and charging deceptive fees, utility monopolies passing on unnecessary costs to Virginians, and targeting unfair anti-competitive practices, unscrupulous contractors, and predatory debt collectors.

Jones will end predatory practices that drive up healthcare costs by prosecuting price-fixing drug companies, reining in pharmacy benefit managers and private equity’s acquisition of healthcare facilities, and holding insurers accountable for billing abuses.

Jones will restore fairness and affordability in housing by targeting surveillance pricing, enforcing anti-discrimination laws, cracking down on contractors cutting corners at the expense of Virginians’ health and safety, and supporting local efforts to develop affordable housing units.

Jones will protect workers from unscrupulous employers by recreating the Workers’ Protection Unit, cracking down on wage theft and misclassification, and ending abusive non-compete agreements.

Jones will keep seniors safe from scammers by prosecuting those targeting older adults and hold social media platforms accountable for their role in enabling the spread of scams.

The new plan follows the campaign’s second general election ad, “Too Weak,” highlighting MAGA Jason Miyares’ record of being too weak to stand up to Donald Trump’s attacks on Virginia’s economy that have led to rising unemployment and skyrocketing costs.
