Another Democrat – Virginia Sierra Club Communications Director Tim Cywinski – is announcing this morning that he’s throwing his hat in the ring for the VA01 Democratic nomination to take on the deplorable Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA01) next year. See below for his press release and launch video, in which he says “Virginia is my home and I still believe that the future is ours to build; let’s fight for it together.” Cywinski joins Amanda Pohl, Lisa Vedernikova Khanna, Melvin Tull, Andrew Lucchetti, Salaam Bhatti, Sean Sublette and James Shea (let me know if I’m missing anyone). Also, the other day, Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor filed paperwork with the FEC for her own run for this nomination, so it looks like she’s running as well. Anyway…a crowded field here in this tough-but-potentially winnable district; so let’s win it!
Tim Cywinski Officially Announces Candidacy for Virginia’s 1st Congressional District
Cywinski’s “A New Way Forward” campaign is guided by five pillars that reflect his commitment to restoring representation to everyday people — not special interests.
Virginia – Tim Cywinski, a longtime grassroots advocate and Communications Director of the Sierra Club Virginia Chapter, has officially announced his candidacy for Virginia’s 1st Congressional District. Throughout his career, Cywinski has worked to empower everyday people in the political process, lift up communities caught in the crosshairs of powerful industries, and amplify the voices of those too often left behind by the government.
Cywinski’s campaign, branded “A New Way Forward,” is built around five guiding pillars:
- No Strings Attached – Refusing donations from corporations and private special interest groups.
- Earned, Never Assumed – Every person matters, every voice counts, and support is earned by listening as much as speaking.
- Democracy from the Ground Up – Every donor, whether $5 or $500, will get a direct call from Tim.
