Former Virginia Republican Elected Officials Endorse Ghazala Hashmi for Lieutenant Governor

RICHMOND, VA — Today, former Virginia Republican Congresswoman Barbara Comstock and former Virginia Republican Delegate David Ramadan announced their endorsement of Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor Virginia Senator Ghazala Hashmi (D-SD15).

Congresswoman Barbara Comstock and Delegate David Ramadan will be voting for Senator Hashmi due to her proven ability to form strong relationships across the aisle and her commitment to prioritizing the needs and interests of all Virginians over partisan fighting.

“As a two-term State Senator, as Chair of the Senate Education and Health Committee, Vice Chair of the Joint Commission on Health Care, as well as member of numerous other commissions and boards, I know the value of listening to all perspectives, learning from experts, and achieving consensus. I will be a lieutenant governor for all Virginians – no matter your background, zip code, or party affiliation. I am truly honored to have the support of former Congresswoman Barbara Comstock and former Delegate Dr. David Ramadan,” said Senator Ghazala Hashmi.

“Senator Hashmi has developed the necessary skills, insights, and legislative experience that make her the most capable and effective choice for lieutenant governor. I have come to know Senator Hashmi, and I trust she has the character and integrity needed to address the most pressing issues of the Commonwealth and the ability to bring people together to do so. Her strong respect for democracy and the rule of law are essential to me in choosing who we have lead us in government today,” said Congresswoman Barbara Comstock.

“Over her two terms in the Virginia Senate, Dr. Ghazala Hashmi has worked across the aisle to find solutions and deliver real results on the issues all Virginians care about. As the first Muslim and first Indian-American elected to the Virginia Senate, she has broken barriers while building bridges — showing that progress comes through collaboration, not division. I know she will bring the same bipartisan spirit, common-sense approach, and deep dedication to improving lives to the role of lieutenant governor, and that is why she has earned my vote,” said Delegate David Ramadan.

Throughout her time in the General Assembly, Senator Hashmi has a proven track record of collaborating with her Democratic and Republican colleagues on issues that matter to all Virginians. She received bipartisan support on compact legislation to expand access to health care providers, address health care worker shortages, and create more job opportunities for Virginians. She worked across the aisle to pass legislation to increase support for students and create opportunities for young people, including internships, career and technical education, and post-secondary education.
