RICHMOND, Va. — In a new video, Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger today called out Winsome Earle-Sears for continuing to back President Trump as his administration yesterday laid off more than 4,000 federal workers amid the government shutdown.
At Thursday’s debate, Winsome Earle-Sears outright refused to call on President Trump to stop this chaos when asked directly by the moderators. That refusal comes after Earle-Sears said DOGE cuts and attacks on Virginia’s economy were not a “real issue” in a CNN interview earlier this year.

SPANBERGER: “Yesterday, the Trump Administration announced they will begin mass firings of Virginia’s federal workers.
“Let’s be clear about this is — it’s DOGE 2.0. This comes as I continue to hear from Virginia Veterans, federal workers, and families who are hurting because of President Trump’s attacks on our Commonwealth.
“Just this Thursday, at our debate in Norfolk, I called out my opponent for refusing to tell Trump to stop this chaos.
“I believe Virginia deserves a Governor who puts Virginians first.
“While my opponent stands loyal to Trump and isn’t calling out this chaos, I will continue to call out the President — and to call on the President — to stop attacking Virginia’s workforce, to focus on bringing people together, and to put an end to this government shutdown”

Yesterday, Spanberger reacted to the Trump Administration “recklessly escalating” their longstanding attacks on Virginia federal workers by implementing mass layoffs amid the government shutdown — and made clear that unlike her opponent, she will always put Virginians first as their next Governor.
