This Weekend, Spanberger Met Virginians in Their Communities & Made Clear Her Focus on Putting Virginia First at Stops in Petersburg, Hampton, Norfolk, Portsmouth, & Southampton County

COURTLAND, Va. — Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger on Saturday kicked off her “Virginia Votes Bus Tour” with stops at homecoming celebrations at Virginia State University, Hampton University, and Norfolk State University.

The tour continued on Sunday as Spanberger met Virginians in Norfolk and Portsmouth before touring a peanut farm in Southampton County. Throughout the weekend, Spanberger made clear the stakes of this election and how — as the next Governor of Virginia — she will always put Virginians first.

Virginia State University

Spanberger kicked off the “Virginia Votes Bus Tour” by walking in Virginia State University’s homecoming parade in Petersburg, greeting and celebrating with Virginians throughout the morning.

Hampton University

Spanberger continued the day on Saturday by tailgating with Virginians ahead of Hampton University’s homecoming football game, celebrating with Virginians and encouraging them to make their voices heard at the polls during the final week of early voting.

Norfolk State University

Spanberger ended Saturday by attending Norfolk State University’s homecoming football game, taking in the festivities alongside Virginians and urging Virginians to make their voices heard in this year’s election.

Norfolk

On Sunday morning, Spanberger was joined by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro for services at Second Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk. Spanberger and Shapiro worshiped alongside Virginians and listened to their ideas and concerns for Virginia’s future.

Portsmouth

Following church services, Spanberger and Shapiro were hosted by Virginia Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise Lucas as they joined community members to make clear the stakes of this year’s election. The leaders laid out how Spanberger will be a Governor who always puts Virginia and Virginians first — with clear plans ready to get to work on Day One to lower costs for Virginians, strengthen Virginia’s economy, and put Virginia’s public schools on a path toward being the best in America.

Norfolk

Spanberger and Shapiro then joined Senator Angelia Williams Graves (SD-21), Delegate Bonita Anthony (HD-92), and supporters back in Norfolk at BROTHERS Restaurant to lay out the stakes in this year’s elections and encourage Virginians to head to the polls. As Virginia’s next Governor, Spanberger will always put Virginia and Virginians first.

Courtland

On Sunday afternoon, Spanberger toured Pop Son Farm in Southampton County, meeting with local farmers and leaders to discuss the challenges facing Virginia agriculture and discussing how she will support Virginia’s producers as the Commonwealth’s next Governor.

BACKGROUND

Spanberger remains focused on putting Virginians first as their next Governor — by lowering costs for Virginia families, growing Virginia’s economy, and making sure Virginia’s schools are the best in the nation.

Earlier this year, Spanberger rolled out her Affordable Virginia Plan to lower Virginians’ healthcare, housing, and energy costs. The cost of living remains the top issue for Virginia voters.

In July, Spanberger rolled out her Growing Virginia Plan to grow workforce training opportunities for Virginians, bring more business investment to Virginia, and expand trade opportunities for Virginia businesses. In the face of the Trump Administration’s attacks on Virginia’s economy and workforce — attacks that led the University of Virginia to forecast that the Commonwealth will have virtually no job growth in 2026, Spanberger will stand up for Virginia jobs.

In August, Spanberger announced her Strengthening Virginia Schools Plan to strengthen Virginia’s child care and early childhood education programs, K-12 schools, and institutions of higher education. As a mom of three kids in Virginia public schools, Spanberger has a plan to make sure Virginia’s schools are the best in America.

The “Virginia Votes Bus Tour” is Spanberger’s second statewide bus tour of her campaign. Earlier this year, Spanberger completed her eight-day, 49-stop “Span Virginia Bus Tour,” which energized voters across the Commonwealth.
