Spanberger’s “Virginia Votes Bus Tour” Heads to Middle Peninsula & Hampton Roads with a Focus on Lowering Costs

On Wednesday, Spanberger Made Stops in Essex County, Newport News, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, & Isle of Wight County

SMITHFIELD, Va. — Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger continued her “Virginia Votes Bus Tour” on Wednesday by meeting Virginians across the Middle Peninsula and Hampton Roads with stops in Essex County, Newport News, Virginia Beach, and Chesapeake before ending the day with a stop at Darden’s Country Store in Isle of Wight County.

Spanberger continued to make clear that — as the next Governor of Virginia — she has clear plans to get to work on Day One to lower costs for Virginians, strengthen Virginia’s economy, and make sure the Commonwealth’s public schools are the best in America. Less than a week until Election Day, Spanberger made clear the stakes in this year’s elections and encouraged Virginians to make their voices heard.

Essex County

Spanberger kicked off Day Four of the “Virginia Votes Bus Tour” by meeting Virginians at 1710 Tavern in Tappahannock. During the event, Spanberger outlined how she will be a Governor who always puts Virginia and Virginians first — no matter who is in the White House.

Newport News

Spanberger then headed to Newport News, where she continued to meet Virginians and outlined her plans to lower Virginians’ costs — at the doctor’s office and at the pharmacy counter, in the housing market, and on their energy bills — as the next Governor of the Commonwealth. She was joined at the stop by Newport News Mayor Phillip Jones, Newport News Sheriff Gabriel Morgan, and other local leaders.

Virginia Beach

Spanberger continued the day with a stop at Three Notch’d Brewing Company in Virginia Beach, as she made clear that she will be a Governor who always puts Virginia and Virginians first. Six days before Election Day, Spanberger encouraged Virginians to head to the polls and make their voices heard in this year’s elections.

Chesapeake

Then, Spanberger headed to Chesapeake to meet Virginians at Cutlass Grille, where she continued to share her plans to lower costs for Virginians, strengthen Virginia’s economy, and put Virginia’s public schools on a path toward being the best in the country.

Isle of Wight County

Spanberger ended the day with a stop at Darden’s Country Store in Smithfield to hear about the challenges facing small businesses across the Commonwealth — and to pick up some snacks to help fuel the remainder of the “Virginia Votes Bus Tour.”

BACKGROUND

Spanberger remains focused on putting Virginians first as their next Governor — by lowering costs for Virginia families, growing Virginia’s economy, and making sure Virginia’s schools are the best in the nation.

Earlier this year, Spanberger rolled out her Affordable Virginia Plan to lower Virginians’ healthcare, housing, and energy costs. The cost of living remains the top issue for Virginia voters.

In July, Spanberger rolled out her Growing Virginia Plan to grow workforce training opportunities for Virginians, bring more business investment to Virginia, and expand trade opportunities for Virginia businesses. In the face of the Trump Administration’s attacks on Virginia’s economy and workforce — attacks that led the University of Virginia to forecast that the Commonwealth will have virtually no job growth in 2026, Spanberger will stand up for Virginia jobs.

In August, Spanberger announced her Strengthening Virginia Schools Plan to strengthen Virginia’s child care and early childhood education programs, K-12 schools, and institutions of higher education. As a mom of three kids in Virginia public schools, Spanberger has a plan to make sure Virginia’s schools are the best in America.

The “Virginia Votes Bus Tour” is Spanberger’s second statewide bus tour of her campaign. Earlier this year, Spanberger completed her eight-day, 49-stop “Span Virginia Bus Tour,” which energized voters across the Commonwealth.
