RICHMOND, VA — Yesterday, Lieutenant Governor-elect Ghazala Hashmi joined ‘Velshi’ on MSNBC to reflect on her history-making campaign to become the first Muslim woman in the nation elected to statewide office.
Lt. Gov-elect Hashmi highlighted her plans to respond to the chaos coming out of Washington and strengthen Virginia by protecting health care and feeding hungry Virginians, and she underscored her commitment to protecting the rights and freedoms of all Virginians, including access to safe and legal reproductive care.

And now the burgeoning crisis of hunger that we see because of the cuts to SNAP. We are going to ensure that our food banks are stocked, that we are able to reach hungry Virginians.”
- “Virginia has a critical constitutional amendment that has already passed once in the General Assembly, and that is a protection for reproductive health care, the full spectrum of reproductive health care. We have to ensure passage of that as well. It will come in front of Virginia voters next November. This is in response to the disastrous Dobbs decision to make sure that we protect a key medical concern here in Virginia.”
