Rep. Luria to Participate in House January 6 Hearing, Releases Statement on Five Year Anniversary of Attack
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Former small business owner, 20-year U.S. Navy veteran, and two-term member of Congress Rep. Elaine Luria will participate in the House January 6th hearing today to commemorate the five year anniversary of the attack on the Capitol.
“The targeted attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, at the direction of President Trump, remains one of the darkest days in our country’s history. Though many have tried and continue to attempt to rewrite history, the Select Committee made clear that President Trump violated his oath as President and took no action during those 187 minutes of violence to spare law enforcement officers from brutal injuries, save lives, and end the violent attack on the Capitol,” Rep. Luria said. “On the fifth anniversary of the attack, we remember the Capitol police officers and members of law enforcement who put their lives on the line and defended democracy on January 6, 2021. We will never forget their sacrifices or the events of that day that continue to haunt our country.”
Rep. Luria served on the bipartisan House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol in 2022 and led a hearing with Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger on President Trump’s inaction during the 187 minutes that the Capitol was attacked.
