VPM: Yesli Vega questions whether liberal states’ abortion laws are ‘acceptable’

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger released the following statement in response to a new report from VPM.

“First, my opponent applauded the Supreme Court’s draft opinion to overturn Roe, next, she asserted that women who are raped cannot become pregnant, then, it was reported that she would vote for government-mandated pregnancies and a total ban on abortion — even in cases where a mother’s life is threatened.”

“My opponent’s views deny basic biology, would endanger the lives of Virginia women facing life-threatening pregnancy complications, and are out of touch.”

“In Congress, we contend with complicated issues, making decisions that impact the health, economic prosperity, and security of our nation and fellow citizens. The Seventh District deserves a thoughtful representative who is focused on addressing Virginia’s greatest challenges, not an extreme ideologue.”

Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger is the only pro-choice, pro-marriage equality, and pro-privacy candidate in the race for Virginia’s Seventh Congressional District (VA-07).

Congresswoman Spanberger is working tirelessly in the U.S. House of Representatives to build coalitions and enact commonsense legislation that will improve the lives of Virginians and protect fundamental rights and freedoms. That is why Spanberger has been a vocal advocate for safeguarding the rights of all Virginains in the U.S. House. Spanberger has voted with an overwhelming majority in Congress to protect the right to contraception, same-sex marriage, interstate travel for reproductive care, and twice to codify Roe v. Wade.

Spanberger is ranked the most bipartisan Member of Congress from Virginia and among the top five most bipartisan Members of the U.S. House overall.
