NEW AUDIO: Yesli Vega Suggests Doctors Should Not Be Allowed to Save Pregnant Women’s Lives
In newly reported audio, Vega questions whether it’s “acceptable” for “liberal states” to protect abortion access

In new audio first reported by Virginia Public Media, Republican candidate Yesli Vega in VA-07 suggests that only God can decide to save the life of the mother and questions whether it’s “acceptable” for “liberal states” to protect abortion access.

In an audio clip, Vega is heard talking about her game plan to ban abortion across the country:

“The fight for the pro-life movement begins once the Supreme Court strikes [Roe v. Wade] down and reverts it back to the states. So you have states that are conservative, okay, that have, uh, conservative governors. Those states? Abortion’s not gonna be an option, right?

“And then you have the other liberal states where they’re gonna have a free-for-all at taking innocent life, and that’s where we have to step in and say ‘What is acceptable and what is not?’ And in my opinion, I’m sorry, look, God is a giver of life, right, and therefore God takes life.

Vega has pledged to support laws to “protect innocent life from conception to natural death,” a position that leaves no room for exceptions. When Vega is asked if she will support exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the mother, she has repeatedly refused to answer.

“Yesli Vega is trying to hide her extreme positions on banning abortion from Virginians, but what she admits when the TV cameras are off says it all,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “First Vega said it was less likely for victims of rape to get pregnant, and now she’s suggesting only God can decide to save the life of the mother. Pregnancy shouldn’t be a life-threatening condition, and Virginians deserve a representative who will unequivocally fight for their health and reproductive rights.”
