The Telework Improvements Act (HR 1722), which has broad bipartisan support, was also sponsored by John Sarbanes (D-MD), and Frank Wolf (R-VA).  As Board of Supervisors Chairman, Gerry Connolly led the way for Fairfax County employees to telework 20% of the time.  This teleworking legislation, which is PAYGO compliant, is a great benefit to our region on many fronts:

It is the single most effective way to reduce traffic congestion while highway improvement spending is at an all-time low.

It reduces pollution and our dependence on foreign oil by taking cars off the streets.

It makes the federal government more prepared to handle emergencies such as the debilitating snowstorms we experienced earlier this year.

It helps the government recruit and retain workers at a time when 48% of its workforce is eligible to retire in the next decade.

This is another Connolly accomplishment to improve traffic in Northern Virginia.  Meanwhile, Keith Fimian is AWOL on the issue.  His website doesn’t include a single idea for transportation!
