From the Democratic Party of Virginia:
Statement On Youngkin’s Decision to Remove LGBTQ+ Youth Resources From Chair of DPVA’S LGBT Caucus, Joel McDonald
RICHMOND, VA – Yesterday, The Washington Post reported that Governor Youngkin capitulated to a conservative online publication and removed links hosted by the Virginia Department of Health, aimed at providing resources to LGBTQ+ youth in the commonwealth.
On the heels of this politically motivated decision to curtail a public health initiative that would protect Virginia’s children, Joel McDonald, Chair of the Democratic Party of Virginia’s LGBT Caucus, released the following statement:
“Glenn Youngkin is skilled at talking out of both sides of his mouth: he’s the ‘parents rights’ governor, so long as your kids are straight.
Youngkin’s administration’s decision to rip away resources from Virginia’s LGBTQ children and parents of LGBTQ children – in direct opposition to the advice of experts at the Virginia Department of Health – is actively putting LGBTQ youth at risk in Virginia.
Youngkin’s actions are an affront not just to the civil rights of LGBTQ Virginians, but to the parents and safety of Virginian children.” |
