Last week, MAGA Glenn Youngkin was busy gaslighting to Jake Tapper, denying what Trump actually said, which is that he’d use the U.S. military against *U.S. citizens” who he views as his “enemy.” Of course, that’s totally fascistic, antithetical to democracy and the rule of law, but Youngkin DOES NOT CARE. As the brilliant Sherilyn Ifill put it, “with the combed hair & the sweater vests, the Harvard Business School graduates who know better – they make Trump possible. Their cynicism & pathological ambition have brought us to this point.” And as conservative Bill Kristol put it:
“George Orwell on Glenn Youngkin: The Party told him to reject the evidence of his eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”
So earlier today, Youngkin was back in his natural habitat, which of course is right-wing-propaganda media, in this case “Fox News Sunday.” And yes, it was as bad as you’d expect from this pathological liar who ONLY cares about gaining power for himself, while certainly NOT caring about democracy, the rule of law, the constitution, etc. Check it out.
First, Youngkin dodges Fox News host Shannon Bream specifically quoting former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley that Trump is “the most dangerous person ever,” “a total fascist,” “the most dangerous person to this country.” Youngkin’s response to that? Watch the video, but basically Youngkin just refused to respond on point, at all, to what he was being asked. Insteady, Youngkin falsely claimed that this was an “attack on President Trump,” and that it’s all because Kamala Harris supposedly has nothing better to talk about, no vision for the future, etc. Of course, even if that were true – which it MOST DEFINITELY IS NOT! – again, the quotes Shannon Bream read was by former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Mark Milley, and NOT by any Democratic politician, candidate, etc. So yeah, Youngkin has no substantive or serious response, because…of COURSE he doesn’t. Why not? Because, in fact, Trump IS a fascist and IS extremely dangerous. But Youngkin won’t say that, because he’s thrown in his lot completely with MAGA/Trump, desperately wants to be president some day and sees this as the only way to accomplish that, and has decided that the country, the rule of law, the constitution, EVERYTHING else is subordinate to his own personal ambitions and obsessions. Sick.
Next, Youngkin unleashed the classic “Gish Gallop” – a firehose of lies meant to overwhelm, distract, change the topic, and most definitely NOT address the actual substance, in this case being many serious people (including former Joint Chief of Staff Chair Milley, former Trump staffers, etc.) expressing SERIOUS concerns that Trump is a fascist, extremely dangerous, etc. So instead of addressing ANY of that, Youngkin instead lied and lied some more.”
- “the reason why the other side can’t talk about them and they want to distract everyone is because they have demonstrated over the last three and a half years they don’t have any answers” (in fact, Democrats very much have been talking about the issues, while Trump rambles insanely about Arnold Palmer’s penis size, using the military against his “enemies within,” etc., etc. Also, who is “they?” In this case, again, the Fox News host’s question specifically cited Gen. Mark Milley and former Trump staffers, NOT Democrats. So Youngkin’s lumping all of those people into some vague “they” who are just pathologically anti-Trump, for no reason other than “distract everyone,” not because they have authentic, grave concerns about Trump – for good reason? What a scumbag Youngkin is.)
- “They’ve unleashed unprecedented inflation that has been a gut punch every time anybody walks into a grocery store.” (This is just completely false/dishonest and backwards; in fact, when Joe Biden took office, inflationary pressures were already building, coming out of the COVID pandemic with snarled supply chains, etc. Then, a strong economic recovery led to a burst of demand, combined with the supply-chain issues to drive inflation GLOBALLY, not just in the U.S. obviously. And then, note that U.S. inflation came down faster – without a recession! – in the U.S. than in any other country! In other words, the Biden-Harris administration not only didn’t “unleash” the inflation,” thgey’re the ones who got it under control!)
- “They’ve allowed millions upon millions of illegal immigrants to come across the border and turn every state into a border state.” (This is pretty much just xenophobic fear mongering b.s. For a fact check on Trump’s – and other MAGA Republicans’ – lies about immigration, see Daniel Dale’s “Debunking Trump’s October lying spree about immigration.”)
- “And what’s happened around the world is just a representation of a weak presidency a weak vice presidency and a weak America.” (This is utterly absurd. So it’s now Biden’s fault that Putin – Trump’s buddy! – invaded Ukraine, unprovoked, for absolutely no good reason? It’s now Biden’s fault that Hamas attacked Israel, and that Israel fought back? WTF is Youngkin even blabbering about???)
- “Americans and Virginia…want someone who will stand for a strong economy and build one that lifts up all Americans like we had before – high growth, low inflation, not low growth and high inflation.” (In fact, what we currently have under Biden-Harris is solid economic growth – basically the same as during Trump’s four years in office – with low inflation, currently around 2.4%.)
- “That’s why we see President Trump surging in the polls around the country.” (There’s definitely no sign of that; in fact, this race has been quite stable for weeks now.)
P.S. By the way, why isn’t it a MAJOR STORY in the WaPo, Richmond Times-Dispatch, Virginian-Pilot, etc. when the governor of Virginia goes on national TV and just flat-out lies, gaslights, etc? That’s not “newsworthy” according to the “mainstream media?” Why the F*** not???
