ROANOKE, VA — Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger today announced her endorsement of Beth Macy in her run for Congress. Macy, the best-selling author of Dopesick, Factory Man, Paper Girl and other books, has chronicled the lives of under-represented people of rural Virginia for more than 35 years.

“Beth Macy has spent four decades telling the stories of outsiders and underdogs — from reporting on offshoring jobs to shining a light on the devastating impacts of the opioid crisis,” Gov. Spanberger said. “As Republicans in Washington continue to make life more expensive for Virginia families, Beth is stepping up to lower costs and get things done for the people of Virginia. In Congress, Beth will do what she has always done: promoting opportunity, affordability, and dignity for working families. I’m proud to endorse her candidacy.”

Macy, who has also been endorsed by United States Senator Tim Kaine, launched her campaign in November, 2025, and reported raising over $600,000 in less than two months.
