Video: Sen. Mark Warner Asks, “Who is making millions insider trading on the war in Iran?”

See below for an excellent video by Sen. Mark Warner, who says: “It’s corrupt and gross – a handful of traders seem to be raking in millions of dollars using insider information from the Trump administration. This week, I’m breaking down what’s going on here and what I am trying to do about it.”

“Only 16 minutes before Trump announced a pause on striking Iranian power plants, somebody put a $580 million bet on the futures market and managed to collect a big payout before the war started.  160 Polymarket accounts bet that the war with Iran would start within one day. And guess what? They all made a lot of money. On January 2nd, a single trader bet $32,000 that Nicholas Maduro would be captured. He won $400,000. And just before Trump paused his tariffs, when the market actually rose close to 10%, he went out and said, ‘this is a good time to buy.’ You be the judge. Does any of this sound ethical? Does it sound legal? Or does it feel like somebody’s cooking the books while Americans are literally in harm’s way and dying in the Middle East? When Americans prices are going up, gas at record highs, should we really have to worry about insiders getting a hold of information where they can profit off of this war or the president’s erratic behavior? This week, I’m going to explain what’s going on here and what I’m trying to do to crack down on it. What we’re seeing here is frankly the potentially manipulation of two different sets of markets. One are the traditional financial markets, the securities market, and people betting on stock futures. The other is the more lightly regulated prediction markets. But unfortunately, we’re seeing potential abuse in both sector.”
