Here are a few national and Virginia news headlines, political and otherwise, for Thursday, December 17. Also, speaking of bigotry, check out the screen shot of Sen. Carrico’s bill to bring back the Confederate flag on Virginia license plates.
- For Republicans, bigotry is the new normal (Agreed, except it’s not “new;” Republicansw have appealed to racism, usually in a bit less overt way, at least since the 1960s, when they stopped in any way/shape/form being the party of Lincoln.)

- The GOP candidates’ appalling hypocrisy on Christianity, refugees and war
- GOP candidates’ hawkish views could alienate war-weary voters (They are way beyond “hawkish” into “warmongering lunatic” territory.)

- Paul Krugman: Fed Follies (“No, I don’t mean the decision to raise rates, although nothing I’ve seen changes my view that it’s a bad idea. I mean the desperate efforts to say something new about today’s move.” Not sure I agree with Krugman on this one…)
- In fighting the Islamic State, Obama is a tortoise and the GOP is harebrained (“The president’s reluctance to go all-out in the Middle East is based on calculus, not cowardice.”)

- GOP’s national security hysteria: We’re not in World War III, so stop trying to petrify everyone (Nor is the world “on fire,” except perhaps if they’re referring to global warming or the rainforests of Indonesia, which of course they’re not, since they’re anti-environment and science deniers to boot. Blech.)
