In a sane world, the following post by Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA09) would lead to a chorus of condemnation from Democrats, Republicans, newspaper editorial boards, etc, etc. Unfortunately, we don’t live in a sane world, so:
- the media won’t blink an eye at this, won’t write about it, won’t fact check it, won’t call out Griffith for his wild/overt bigotry, will continue to normalize him, etc;
- Griffith will remain a member in good standing of the MAGA/Trump Republican Party, and will face zero negative consequences from Republican leadership in the House – Speaker Mike Johnson, etc. – for this lunacy
- US House Democrats will continue to refer to Griffith as their “friend across the aisle,” will continue to pose for photos with him, etc.
By the way, what in hell is the “Sharia-Free America Caucus in Congress?” So according to this, the Caucus was launched in December 2025 “to counter the alarming rise of Sharia in the United States.” According to the statement setting up this Caucus, supposedly “The American way of life is under siege by radicals from a culture waging war against our Constitution and Western values”; “America is facing a threat that directly attacks our Constitution and our Western values: the spread of Sharia law”; ” Islam isn’t a religion, it’s a death cult”; etc.
Of course, none of this is even remotely true; in fact, “There is little evidence to support the caucus’s claim that Sharia poses a threat to the U.S.”; the “American way of life” is NOT “under siege by radicals” (unless the far-right extremists are looking in the mirror when they say that?); Islam obviously is a religion, the second-largest in the world actually, with nearly 2 billion adherents; etc.
So what’s going on here? As this article explains:
The GOP needs a bogeyman in the midterms. The border crisis is over, DEI has been purged, and the panic over transgender bathrooms is getting old. What can House Republicans run against?
Many are turning to a familiar answer: Muslims.
Four months ago, two Texas Republicans, Rep. Keith Self and Rep. Chip Roy, founded the Sharia-Free America Caucus. Since then, the group has swelled to more than 60 members, including Majority Whip Tom Emmer. That’s more than a quarter of the House GOP.
Officially, the caucus opposes the imposition of Sharia—Islamic law—in America. It claims to have no problem with Muslims per se. But the more its members talk, the more obvious their bigotry becomes.
[…]
Republicans used to distinguish radical Muslims from mainstream Muslims. The caucus is abandoning that distinction.
[…]
The truth is that many of these Republicans just don’t like Islam. They can’t even hide it.
So that’s what’s actually going on with this, and the media SHOULD – but almost certainly WILL NOT, because they are cowards, among other things – report it as such. Also, extremist bigots like Morgan Griffith should be treated as extremist bigots, not as serious representatives deserving to be treated as operating in good faith, or as having anything positive to offer, etc. Also note that with Griffith, it’s not just his off-the-charts anti-Muslim bigotry, it’s also that he’s a complete f’ing joke in every other way too. For just a few of many examples, see below:

Finally, here are a few reactions on Griffith’s Facebook post to his rabidly anti-Muslim bigotry:
- “Is this The Onion?”
- “Congressman Morgan Griffith, could you please explain what Sharia is?”
- “We should all be against any sort of fanaticism. That is a danger to not only America, but the world. Religious fanaticism is some of the most dangerous. Let us fight against religious fanaticism.”
- “focus on healthcare, snap benefits for everyone who needs it, free lunches in school!! try to keep Christian nationalists out of politics!”
- “Hatred is the mantra of the Republican Party. The hypocrisy of this statement as Republicans seek to install Christian nationalism in our society.”
- “Poor and rural areas like the one you’re supposed to represent are getting hit hardest by the Trump administration, but you go ahead with the culture wars. We’re all on to you, buddy.”
Not that Griffith cares, of course…the guy’s a climate science denier, after all, so clearly he doesn’t care about facts, logic, reason, etc. And no, people like Griffith shouldn’t hold any public office, EVER, let alone be in Congress. Seriously, why would someone this batsh*** crazy and horrible get a single vote???
