NYT, Washington Post Call on Republicans Like Rep. Comstock to “Repudiate” Trump

“The time has come for Republicans — including Mr. McCain — to repudiate Mr. Trump once and for all.”

McLean – This morning, the New York Times and Washington Post editorial boards called for all Republican elected officials, including Representative Barbara Comstock, to unequivocally repudiate GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump after he called for an armed rebellion against a Clinton presidency.

From the New York Times, “Further Into the Muck With Mr. Trump:

“Republicans would do well to summon the integrity that Mr. McCain showed in 2008, and not just to give some sense of decency to this ugly campaign. The time has come for Republicans — including Mr. McCain — to repudiate Mr. Trump once and for all.

From the Washington Post, “Trump’s reckless call to ‘Second Amendment people’”:

“If Mr. Trump were not a major-party presidential nominee, his comment Tuesday might have earned him a stern visit from the Secret Service. Instead, it will simply be added to the ever-growing list of Mr. Trump’s disqualifiers — and to the ever-growing burden of Republican leaders who continue to insist that their candidate is suitable to serve.”

Both editorial boards spoke directly to Republican leaders who have yet to formally and unambiguously renounce Trump, a list that grows smaller by the day yet continues to include Rep. Barbara Comstock. Loyal to the party line, Rep. Comstock continues to support her party’s nominee even as he calls for the assassination of political opponents, disparages Virginia Gold Star families, and casually attempts to incite a constitutional crisis.

“As Trump sinks to new lows, our opponent still holds the party line,” Bennett spokesman Robert Howard said.“Her silence, and her refusal to unequivocally repudiate Mr. Trump, grows more shocking and untenable by the day. Far from leadership or courage, her refusal is cowardly, and she can be assured that the voters of the 10th are taking note.”
