Ah, sweet VA GOP unity, eh? Or not. See the audio below to hear Corey Stewart saying he hasn’t talked to Ed Gillespie since primary night (6/13); that Gillespie backed out of a meeting with him “at the last minute”; and that the only way his “strong-willed” supporters will vote for Gillespie is if “Ed Gillespie has strong positions like I did on [histoical monuments…cracking down on illegal immigration]…they are not just people who are just going to blindly follow whatever I say…[Gillespie’s] going to have to get stronger on the issues.”
Later, Stewart said that Gillespie is going to “have to embrace” Stewart’s issues, that Gillespie is “trying to play this old-style politics…running towards the center…to get the independent voters…but first, especially in off-year election…if you don’t have your base behind you, and obviously our base is not unified, there’s a fracture there, then you’re not going to be able to win.”
