From the Democratic Party of Virginia (DPVA):
Party or Country: Will VA GOP Members of Congress stand up to Corey Stewart, Putin, and Trump?
Richmond VA – Hours after Donald Trump’s capitulation to Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Virginia Republican U.S. Senate nominee Corey Stewart praised Trump’s kowtow and blasted U.S. law enforcement’s conclusion that Russia interfered in the 2016 election as an “Unproven Allegation.” While Stewart’s smear of American law enforcement is in itself an embarrassment to the Republican Party of Virginia, Pro-Trump Republican Members of Congress Barbara Comstock, Scott Taylor, and Dave Brat have offered little response to Trump and none to Stewart.
Which leaves the question: do Barbara Comstock, Scott Taylor, and Dave Brat stand by the conclusions of the men and women who put their lives on the line for our country, or do they condone the actions and words of Corey Stewart, Vladimir Putin, and Donald Trump?
In the month since Corey Stewart’s nomination, Comstock, Taylor, and Brat have refused time and again to tell their constituents whether they will campaign with Stewart. Now, as Stewart blasts public safety officials by claiming they have “blown the whole thing up over these allegations over this Russia meddling in our elections,” will Comstock, Taylor, and Brat finally take a stand? They have each offered meek, tepid, and garbl
DPVA Chair Susan Swecker called on Representatives Comstock, Taylor, and Brat to denounce Corey Stewart’s latest attack on law enforcement.
“Corey Stewart smeared American law enforcement yesterday in his defense of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin by calling their conclusion that Russia attacked us an ‘unproven allegation.’ Barbara Comstock, Scott Taylor, and Dave Brat have remained silent while their standard-bearer attacks American intelligence officers, many of whom are their constituents. Do they stand with Corey Stewart, Putin and Trump or do they stand with the hardworking men and women who sacrifice to keep us safe? Once again, their silence is deafening.”
