New WaPo/Schar School Poll: Jennifer Wexton 54%-Barbara Comstock 43%; Kaine +19 Points in VA-10

Last week, the Washington Post and the Schar School of Policy and Government at GMU came out with a poll of VA-10 which found Democratic nominee Jennifer Wexton up 56%-43% over Barbara “Votes 98% with Trump” Comstock among likely voters. Now, the WaPo/Schar are out with an updated poll which doesn’t show a great deal of change from last week.  Here are the highlights (note: as always, standard disclaimers apply regarding not taking anything for granted, leaving it all on the field, it ain’t over ’til it’s over, and any other cliche you can think of…).

  • Wexton is up 11 points (54%-43%) over “Trumpstock” among likely voters. “Trumpstock” has been stuck at 43% for almost a month now, since October 5.
  • Sen. Tim Kaine leads neo-Confederate Corey Stewart by 19 points (58%-39%) in VA-10. I’m glad to see Kaine with a big lead, but I also find it disturbing that even 39% of VA-10 voters would vote for a white-supremacist-loving rabble rouser like Stewart. What are they thinking? Apparently, they either agree with neo-Confederate Corey, which is a horrifying thought, or they will literally vote for ANYONE with an “R” by their name, which is disturbing in its own way.
  • By a 58%-42% margin, VA-10 voters believe that Democrats will take control of the U.S. House this coming Tuesday. And by a 59%-41% margin, they think that will be a good thing for the country. In contrast, by a 56%-44% margin, VA-10 voters believe it would be a BAD thing for the country if Republicans kept control of the House.
  • On immigration, 50% of VA-10 likely voters believe the U.S. should do more to stop illegal immigration across the border with Mexico, while the other 50% believe the U.S. should either do less (23%) or is doing the right amount now (27%).
  • On global warming, 67% of VA-10 likely voters believe the U.S. should do more than it’s doing now, compared to just 9% who say we should be doing less (WTF???) and 24% who think the U.S. is doing the right amount (again, WTF?).
  • On the Saudi hit-squad murder of Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey, literally nobody believes that the Saudis have honestly disclosed what really happened, while 87% believe they are covering it up. And by a 59%-15% margin, VA-10 likely voters believe the U.S. should cut back ties with Saudi Arabia over this atrocity.
