Democrat Steps Up to Take On – and Defeat – Fairfax County School Board Republican (Tom Wilson, Who’s Not Much Better than Elizabeth Schultz)

The following post is from Del. Mark Keam. Personally, I had never heard of Stella Kakissis Pekarsky, but she sounds like a strong candidate and certainly seems to have had an impressive kickoff yesterday (see photos, below). The most important thing is defeating the two Republicans on Fairfax County’s School Board – #1 the horrendous, anti-LGBT, far-right Elizabeth Schultz (R-Springfield District) and #2 the almost-as-bad Thomas Wilson (R-Sully District). As I wrote on November 11, 2017, Wilson’s Sully magisterial district went nearly 2:1 for Ralph Northam on November 7, and 3,338-2,494 for Karen Keys-Gamarra on August 29, 2017. This year, Sully went more than 2:1 for Tim Kaine (D) over Corey Stewart (R), around 2.5:1 for Gerry Connolly (D) over Jeff Dove (R), and 61% for Jennifer Wexton (D) over Barbara Comstock (R). Sensing a pattern here? In 2019, it’s time for this district to elect a Democrat, no doubt about it. Let’s get it done!

I was proud to stand with Stella Kakissis Pekarsky as she announced her candidacy to become the next member of Fairfax County School Board representing the Sully Magisterial District.

Even if you only considered Stella’s qualifications and experiences as a mother of Fairfax County Public School students, a former Fairfax County Public School ESOL teacher, a PTA leader and a civic/community activist, you would know that she’s an excellent candidate for this job.

But what makes her an even more amazing candidate is her passion for making a difference in the lives of everyone, her dedication to the mission of government reflecting the priorities of those citizens it serves, and her demonstrated track record of showing up and rolling up her sleeves to do the hard work behind the scenes.

I’m so pleased that she decided to step up to serve our community in this new role, and I will do all I can to help her win in November 2019.

If you’re as fired up as I am about Stella’s campaign, please visit her website, sign up to volunteer, make a donation, and get ready for an exciting next 11 months!!
