See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health. So, at this point (4/16), in Virginia we’re at 6,889 total reported cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 1,114 hospitalizations and 208 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 389 (+6%) in the latest statistics, which is a slightly faster rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 329 (+5%). As for hospitalizations, they went up 66 (+6%), from 1,048 to 1,114, which is a slightly slower rate of increase than the previous day (which was up 70, or +7%). Deaths are reported up 13 (from 195 to 208), compared to an increase of 41 (from 154 to 195) the previous day. Note that for the fifth consecutive day now, the rates of increase in both confirmed cases and hospitalizations have been in the single digits, compared to double-digit percentage growth from March 21 through around April 10, with a couple exceptions. Hopefully, the curve will continue to “flatten out” in coming days/weeks if we keep up the social distancing and other measures. Also, of course, we need a LOT more testing capacity, PPE, etc.
