See below for Del. Jay Jones (D-Norfolk)’s expected announcement for Virginia Attorney General. Of course, we still don’t know what incumbent Attorney General Mark Herring’s going to end up doing, with rumors ranging from him running for governor, running for reelection as Attorney General, or not running for anything at all. We’ll see. Also rumored to be running for Attorney General are Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor and Virginia House Majority Leader Charniele Herring. Stay tuned.
As for Del. Jones, he was first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2017, then reelected without opposition in 2019. According to Jones’ website, he also ” served as a page in the Virginia House of Delegates in 2003 and as a legislative intern to former Delegates Paula Miller and Algie Howell”; has a law degree from UVA and “is currently a partner with Bischoff Martingayle P.C.”; and “Prior to attending law school, Jay was an associate with Goldman Sachs where he focused on risk management and rating advisory.” According to the VAPLAN 2020 legislative scorecard, Del. Jones was the 7th-most-progressive member of the Virginia House of Delegates. See here for the bills Del. Jones patroned in 2020.
I’m excited to share that I’m exploring a run for Attorney General of Virginia in 2021, and I wanted to let you know why.
