So, at this point (6/3), in Virginia we’re at 46,905 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 4,884 hospitalizations and 1,428 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 666 (+1.4%) in the latest statistics, which is a slower rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 841 (+1.9%). The number of TOTAL test results was 381,539 (up 12,231 from 369,308 yesterday), while the number of “PCR Only” tests was 340,197 (up 11,308 from 328,889 yesterday)…VDH now breaking this out, following The Atlantic article on Virginia’s statistics for testing. These testing numbers are above 10,000 per day (a number Gov. Northam has repeatedly stated as an important goal), but still lower than the 16,664 per day that Harvard’s Global Health Institute estimates we need to reopen safely and contain the virus. As for hospitalizations, they went up 114 (+2.4%), from 4,770 to 4,884, which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 76 (+1.6%). Deaths are reported up 21 (from 1,407 to 1,428), compared to an increase of 17 (from 1,392 to 1,407) the previous day.
