See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. So, at this point (6/22), in Virginia we’re at 58,465 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 5,869 hospitalizations and 1,620 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 471 (+0.8%) in the latest statistics, which is a slightly slower rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 561 (+1.0%). The number of TOTAL test results was 616,807 (up 12,891 from 603,915 yesterday), while the number of “PCR Only” tests was 555,607 (up 12,421 from 543,186 yesterday). These testing numbers are above 10,000 per day (a number Gov. Northam has repeatedly stated as an important goal), but still below the 16,664 per day that Harvard’s Global Health Institute estimates we need to reopen safely and contain the virus. As for hospitalizations, they went up 29 (0.5%), from 5,840 to 5,869, which is a slightly slower rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 33 (+0.6%). Deaths are reported up 9 (from 1,611 to 1,620), compared to an increase of 4 (from 1,607 to 1,611) the previous day.
