So, at this point (7/10), in Virginia we’re at 68,931 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 6,675 hospitalizations and 1,958 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 943 (+1.4%) in the latest statistics, which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 613 (+0.9%), and the largest day-to-day increase in cases since June 7. The number of TOTAL test results was 846,912 (up 17,119 from 829,793 yesterday), which is still well below what we need, according to researchers at Harvard (that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression). As for hospitalizations, they went up 50 (+0.8%), from 6,625 to 6,675, which is a slightly faster rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 48 (+0.7%). Deaths are reported up 21 (from 1,937 to 1,958), compared to an increase of 32 (from 1,905 to 1,937) the previous day.
