See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. So, at this point (7/12), in Virginia we’re at 70,670 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 6,744 hospitalizations and 1,966 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 888 (+1.3%) in the latest statistics, which is a slightly faster rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 851 (+1.2%). The number of TOTAL test results was 885,504 (up 19,247 from 866,257 yesterday), which is still below what we need, according to researchers at Harvard (that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression).  As for hospitalizations, they went up 37 (+0.6%), from 6,707 to 6,744, which is a slightly faster rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 32 (+0.5%). Deaths are reported up 4 (from 1,962 to 1,966), compared to an increase of 4 (from 1,958 to 1,962) the previous day.
