See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. So, at this point (7/23), in Virginia we’re at 81,237 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 7,437 hospitalizations and 2,054 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 844 (+1.0%) in the latest statistics, which is a slower rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 1,022 (+1.3%). The number of TOTAL test results was 1,066,585 (up 19,564 from 1,047,021 yesterday), which is still below what we need, according to researchers at Harvard (that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression).  As for hospitalizations, they went up 86 (+1.2%), from 7,351 to 7,437, which is the same rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 84 (+1.2%).  Deaths are reported up 3 (from 2,051 to 2,054, compared to an increase of 3 (from 2,048 to 2,051) the previous day.
