See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. So, at this point (7/26), in Virginia we’re at 84,567 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 7,593 hospitalizations and 2,078 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 958 (+1.1%) in the latest statistics, which is a slower rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 1,245 (+1.5%). The number of TOTAL test results was 1,126,252 (up 18,557 from 1,107,695 yesterday), which is still below what we need, according to researchers at Harvard (that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression).  As for hospitalizations, they went up 23 (+0.3%), from 7,570 to 7,593, which is a slower rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 55 (+0.7%).  Deaths are reported up 3 (from 2,075 to 2,078), compared to an increase of 8 (from 2,067 to 2,075) the previous day.
