See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. So, at this point (7/29), in Virginia we’re at 87,993 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 7,738 hospitalizations and 2,125 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 999 (+1.1%) in the latest statistics, which is the same rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 922 (+1.1%). The number of TOTAL test results was 1,175,814 (up 17,890 from 1,157,924 yesterday), which is still below what we need, according to researchers at Harvard (that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression).  As for hospitalizations, they went up 52 (+0.7%), from 7,686 to 7,738, which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 39 (+0.5%).  Also note that the VHHA hospitalizations number (1,350) reached its highest level since early June. Deaths are reported up 30 (from 2,095 to 2,125), compared to an increase of 13 (from 2,082 to 2,095) the previous day.
