Earlier, I posted about Virginia Del. Tony Wilt, reportedly saying something that sounded offensive, based on the tweet about it. As I said, I was waiting for the video to make a final judgement, but…really, I should have just waited for the video before posting anything at all. As it turns out, here’s what Del. Wilt had to say:
“In your presentation, you talked about the situation in Minneapolis. And so directly looking at that, we as a society, the whole United States was made very aware that the officer who committed this atrocity towards Mr. Floyd had – what was it? – 17 or…18 against him…but nothing ever…who was protecting this officer? What broke down in the system? You know, you’re talking about outside groups, you can bring in anyone but is there someone there going to bat for bad actors? Seems to me like possibly it’s all a moot point if someone there [is] protecting him. So could you shed some light on that please?”
So, actually, that’s a great question, and Del. Tony Wilt (R), who I disagree with on most everything, actually deserves credit for asking it. Mea culpa for moving too quickly on this one…apologies to Del. Wilt!
